Jleeb, March 23, 2022: Bhavans Indian Education School, Kuwait, joined hands with GEMS Millennium School, Sharjah for the successful fruition of a collaborative project organized by GEMS Global Ambassadors’ Society. The society aims at creating opportunities and sharing the best practices towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals – a collection of 17 interlinked global goals designed to be a “blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all”. Of the 17 given goals, Indian Education School had picked goals 3 and 15 which dealt with health and wellbeing of individuals as well as the protection and restoration of terrestrial ecosystems respectively. Prior to the commencement of the project, a memorandum of understanding was shared between both the schools through the meetings on the Zoom platform. The various roles were clearly defined, and the ambassadors and the guides were chosen from the Department of Science, Primary Wing, IES. Ms. Athira P.V. was the teacher ambassador. Ms. Sheeja P. John oversaw the preparation of the report for media. Ms. Mithula collected the evidence required for the project. Alvin Viljo of 4A took up the role of the student ambassador. IES, along with the twinning school, organized a plethora of activities for its student SDG warriors. Innovative projects which targeted the SDG goals 3 and 15, like compost making, designing T-shirts based on the theme ‘Save Earth’, constructing aquaponics, making of recycled paper as well as poster making on the topic ‘Health and Hygiene’ were done by the students of IES. A ‘Meet the Expert’ session was organized on February 20, 2022, for the students of both the schools. Dr. Gifty Gupta, a yoga expert, made the students perform some simple yoga practices and breathing techniques in a play-way method. In an awareness campaign organized, the selected students spoke about the 17 SD Goals and what each goal intended. The journey which started in the month of January 2022 came to an end with a culmination programme conducted by GEMS Millennium School, Sharjah, on the 17th of March 2022. The student ambassador, Alvin Viljo of grade 4A, IES, spoke about the journey of his team with the project and how it helped them develop their critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and oratory skills. He reiterated the need of these 21st century skills for molding well-rounded citizens of the world. Mr. T. Premkumar, Principal, IES, in his address to the schools, emphasized the importance of Sustainable Development Goals. He congratulated the students and teachers for creating awareness about the mission and vision of Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations among the student community through collaborative learning activities.
