Reading skills, in addition to improving their communication and language skills, can be a fun and imaginative time for children, which opens doors to exciting worlds for them. With the objective of kindling interest in reading, the fifth session of Meet the Expert christened ‘Read Lead Succeed’, was hosted on the virtual platform of Bhavans Kuwait on 27 February 2021. CA Divya Rajesh Ramachandran, the Director of Bhavans Middle East, was the speaker of the day. The occasion was graced by the presence of the Chairman of Bhavans Middle East, Mr. N.K. Ramachandran Menon, the Principal of Bhavans Kuwait, Mr. T. Premkumar, the Vice Principals, teachers, and the students of grades 4 and 5. Ameya Hari Bhaskaran of 5J welcomed the gathering. Mr. T. Premkumar welcomed the speaker and spoke eloquently on the importance of reading, and how reading can enhance one’s vocabulary, self- esteem and confidence. CA Divya Rajesh Ramachandran, during her session, equated reading to exploration. She spoke at length on the unique power of imagination that human beings are endowed with, which enables them to travel along with the characters in the stories they read, and to experience different lives and cultures. She further motivated students to explore multifarious genres in literature by giving a deep insight into them and also suggested interesting books of different genres, for reading. Various methods of reading, the tips to develop a reading habit, the purpose of reading, and the benefits of reading were also expounded in the session with apt examples and practical suggestions. Mr. N.K Ramachandran Menon, the Chairman of Bhavans Middle East, in his closing thoughts, advised students to read a lot and be a selective reader, to be leaders in the future. Ms. Muneera Mammikutty, Head of the Department, English, Primary Wing and Ms. Athira Pratap, faculty member, Department of English, conjointly coordinated the session. Trisha Rao Kundapur of 5E proposed the vote of thanks. Prisha Prabhakara Shetty of 5C was the emcee of the day.
